We are bookending your week, every week with a couple of podcast episodes that we hope can provide insights on how to be a better marketer, sales pro, or operator in your B2B company.
There’s a category for everything.
You better believe inside that category there’s a vendor or 6 dozen competing for the attention of the same individual. The established incumbents take advantage of their massive budgets to remain top of mind with their future customer.
The priority is to show up anywhere and everywhere that their decision makers could be.
This could be by hosting trendy field marketing events, fancy steak dinners, and having the biggest trade show booth known to mankind and the next overhyped marketing event.
Also, it could be injecting what seems to be unlimited funds into a digital strategy where their brand shows up seemingly every time we open up our Chrome browser.
For many, it’s about trying not to get swallowed by these entrenched whales.
Many startup marketers who’ve dealt with this situation have asked ourselves, “How am I supposed to compete against this?”
There’s no one size fits all answer, but it starts with doing things differently and building your brand through authenticity.
I chatted with Megan Noel of Trava in an episode that dropped last week about how to stand out in a crowded market as a startup marketer at the end of last year.
She reminded me about the importance of not falling into the trap of replicating what the competition is doing and why it’s important to obsessively embrace experimentation.
We are starting off this year with more focus than ever before around the modern day marketer in B2B. We’ve learned so much for the guests on the show and their philosophies that we’ve decided to double down on this platform.
Welcome to Season 3 of Modern Day Marketer!
We are kicking off this season by reflecting on the evolution of this podcast. Exactly two years ago, I was hired and hit the ground floor running with this show. I’ve had hundreds of honest and real conversations with marketers about what’s wrong and needs to be fixed in B2B marketing. On Friday, The Juice is launching the first Modern Day Marketer Newsletter (sign up today.
The newsletter will be a companion piece to the show. I’ll share what I am working on, content that is resonating, and share stories about how to level up your brand as a B2B marketer in 2023.
In this episode we cover:
- Evolution of the show: How Modern Day Marketer started and what’s next for the show
- Storytelling: Why stories can be a superpower for your brand
- Curating guests: The power of curating and nurturing amazing guests
